REGULARSEDITOR’S LETTERThe Vnuk-on effectWhen Slovenian farm worker Damijan Vnuk was knocked off his ladder by a tractor reversing in a barn in 2009, his claim for compensation sparked a legal stoush that now threatens the entire future of European motor sport. After initially having his claim for 15,000 Euros rejected, Mr Vnuk appealed and in September 2014, the European Union Court of Justice ruled in his favour, and drafted new legislation that, if implemented, will require all EU member nations (including, at this stage, Great Britain, which will not exit the EU until 2019 at the earliest), to take out 3rd party liability insurance for all motorised vehicles, regardless of whether they are used on public or private land. All vehicles. Not just tractors, but golf buggies, mobility scooters, powered wheelchairs,…3 min
REGULARSLETTERS TO THE EDITORCharlie the greatGreat story on Charlie Edwards in OBA 68! As a member of the organising Club for the Morgan Mile in South Australia, we saw Charlie many times in SA, at Morgan and many other tracks. He led the 125 race on his Bultaco-powered Bantam at the 1965 Australian Scramble Championships at Clarendon, SA, until the carby fell off, and was successful at the short-lived big track on the old Tailem Bend Racecourse, one very rough circuit! We saw him win at St. Kilda (SA) Short Circuit, and I was part of a group that went to Ipswich (Qld) in 1971 where Charlie won the 125 Title. Ray Owen, whose 125 had expired, turned out in the 125 race on his 250, but Charlie still won. Then, when Charlie’s…9 min

IN THIS ISSUEBest LetterThe Vole EnthusiastsWhilst I was quite amused at being mentioned in the “Letters to the Editor” footnote to the “Draggin Jeans Best Letter” of issue 69 of this beautiful magazine, it behoves me to put fingers to keyboard and advise some corrections. You quote the entrant’s licence application as being submitted to “Motorcycling NSW” and me as “general manager”. I was actually employed as the General Secretary/Treasurer of what was then the State Controlling Body of motorcycle sport in NSW, the Auto Cycle Union of NSW Inc. and also Secretary of the Meeting for a number of Bathurst Easter motorcycle race meetings. It was, in reality, a management position and an exciting and interesting time of my life where my former work in Chartered Accounting and my interest in motorcycling fused.…2 min

REGULARSOUT IN THE SHEDGeoffrey Charles Edwin Meredith alias CoxIn the last OBA, Issue No.69 there were articles about Neil Street riding Speedway both here and in the UK, as well as the other feature story of Keith Campbell being buried in the cemetery adjacent to the start line at the Isle of Man TT course. Both of these reminded me of a booklet forward to me by one of the Goulburn Club members regarding the life of Geoffrey Meredith.Geoffrey Cox was born at Beenleigh, Queensland in 1901. He later changed his name by deed poll to Meredith in 1922 prior to moving to the Goulburn area where he was a grazier at Delegate and other nearby locations. He became involved in racing Bugatti cars such as the Brescia and T30 models at Maroubra,…4 min
